Year 7s Win Rounders Tournament With 5 Wins from 5 Matches!

Bravo! A talented Year 7 Rounders’ team showed true grit and determination to be crowned winners of York Schools’ Rounders Tournament at Fulford School against our friends at Fulford, Joseph Rowntree, Manor and All Saints schools.
The girls were on a roll as they convincingly won three games to reach the semi-final against Manor before the exciting final against Fulford.
They won the final by 5 and a half rounders to 6, with a very close, dramatic finish at the end!
The last hit saw Fulford thinking they had won the game by getting a rounder, but the bowler had the ball when they were at third post, and the batter ran on so the rounder did not count.
The Mount girls cheered with delight and shook hands with their worthy opponents!
It was a stunning catch from Phoebe in deep field, on the second to last ball, that put us in that strong position on the last ball.
And a great catch from Jess earlier made the difference too. She said, “We weren’t sure who had won for a moment. They thought they had. We hoped we had! It was really exciting.”
Fellow team member Clemmie, said: “It was fun, exciting and very competitive! If I had the chance I would definitely do it again.”
Director of Sport, Miss Greenwood, said: “This was a truly fantastic team effort, with every single one of them playing an integral part. Great communication from such a positive group!”
A lovely afternoon of fun and rare sun that day, our teamwork was outstanding with 5 wins from 5 matches. A thoroughly deserved result.
Applause to: Penelope (Captain), Jess, Aurea, Clemmie, Phoebe, Francesca, Alexandra, Sofia, Freya B and Freya C.
