Junior School Enjoy Wonderful Woodwind Demonstration

In their Junior School music lesson time yesterday afternoon, pupils in Years 1 – 6 were treated to a demonstration by our wonderful music teachers, Kate White and Joanna Gibbons.
The area of focus for the session was woodwind, with The Mount School having an abundance of classical wind instruments for the girls to learn if they desire. The children listened intently as both teachers spoke about their instruments and the differences in sounds and tones they can achieve. To introduce the session, Mrs Gibbons demonstrated the soft melodic sounds of the flute, whilst Mrs White accompanied on the saxophone.
They performed a selection of inspiring pieces on flute, clarinet, and saxophone including ‘Skye Boat Song,’ which the group singers instantly recognised! For the grand finale, the duo was joined by Dr Passmore at the piano for a trio arrangement of Debussy’s infamous ‘Golliwog’s Cakewalk’. Pupils across the year groups, from Junior School to Sixth Form have the opportunity to learn to play an instrument. Our visiting peripatetic staff provide instrumental and vocal lessons, enabling the girls to enrol on a wide programme of musical study. Pupils can join choirs, vocal groups, orchestra, wind band, swing band and many other musical groups if they desire.
In attending these wonderful demonstrations, the youngest children in school are encouraged to explore the different musical opportunities and try playing different instruments.
Thank you to both Mrs White and Mrs Gibbons for such a lovely demonstration.
