It’s an exciting time for The Mount Junior School as we prepare to welcome our new co-education Reception class in September 2024.
The September 2024 reception class marks the start of the new co-education class. Boys and girls can join The Mount Junior School in Reception in September 2024.
Starting “Big” school doesn’t have to be daunting!
At The Mount Junior School teachers and staff work hard to ensure that all children feel secure and valued as they prepare for school life. To ease anxious jitters, children joining Reception, have been invited to a series of ‘Countdown to Reception’ events – fun-filled sessions introducing pre-schoolers to our vibrant “Explore, Discover, Create” curriculum.
Rachel Capper, Head of the Junior School explains,
‘We understand that transitioning from Pre-School can be filled with both excitement and nervous anticipation. Our nurturing environment and experienced teachers are ready to guide children along this exciting path.’
Our ‘Settling in Sessions’ are designed to help children and their parents become familiar with The Mount Junior School.
The sessions are themed around our Explore, Discover, Create, curriculum. The sessions involve more than just viewing a classroom or meeting a teacher, we’re introducing children to the activities and fun the EDC curriculum brings. We take the children to explore our onsite forest school, conduct science experiments and create new inventions. We want to spark their curiosity and leave them excited, knowing Reception is where the fun starts! The children feel happy, confident and excited about joining Reception in September.
The Mount Junior School’s Explore, Discover, Create curriculum is all about encouraging children to think outside the box.
‘Young minds are naturally inquisitive, and we very much encourage this! Our exceptional teachers develop this curiosity into a deep love of learning. By making lessons what they should be – fun,’ adds Rachel Capper.
In Reception, The Mount School focuses on play-based learning and exploration to develop children’s social, emotional, and communication skills.
We recognise that each child is unique and many of our activities are planned in response to observing pupils’ needs and interests. The creative curriculum adapts to each child’s needs and interests.
