Strong Mount Pupil Dilarum Is 1st Female ‘Grey Belt with a Black Stripe’ at her Ju Jitsu School!

At The Mount we know girls can and they do every day. Dilarum in Year 5 is leading the way with her martial arts’ prowess.

Her martial arts school, ‘Renowned Jiu-Jitsu’, is very proud of her pioneering achievement as their first female ‘grey belt with a black stripe’. (This is the highest young people can achieve as children do not have the Black Belt category).

The Mount is also so delighted to celebrate Dilarum’s martial arts’ progression in school.

This belt celebrates approximately 3-4 years of training or 450-500 training sessions with 700-800 free sparring bouts!

Talented Dilarum said:
“Even with bumps and crashes on the journey, I was able to achieve my goal because I got help and kept working hard.”

Steven Jeff, Deputy Head of Sport (Junior School) said:
“Dilarum digs deep week after week at her martial arts school and the amazing progression after such dedication is clear to see.
She stands as a role model to all Mount girls and boys, and we applaud her commitment and positive attitude which has helped her get to this point.

Recently we had Olympic gold medallist Tom Dean in school launching his new Tom Dean Swim School at The Mount. One day it could well be Dilarum representing her country and showing off her medals!”

The Mount offers a broad range of sporting opportunities in school, in our 16 acres, from football, netball and swimming to gymnastics, competitive dance (where we recently came second in the Great Big Dance Off), cross-country running and rounders to name a few. We also support and accommodate training plans for pupils’ talents outside school including skiing racing, cycling, shooting, equestrianism, dancing (in the Dance World Cup two years’ running) and climbing where pupils excel week in, week out.

Staff themselves have performed to high levels across a variety of sports including football, gymnastics, dance and netball, amongst other disciplines, and share their expertise with pupils daily.

Nothing beats a visit to see all the co-curricular opportunities on offer alongside academic excellence (with the best A Levels in York at A*- B and strong GCSEs, 2024).
