Sports, Friendship & Community: Rebecca’s Mount Journey

We conclude our look back at the College Leadership Team addresses with Rebecca’s speech. Her love of sports and the sense of belonging to The Mount community shine through in her heartfelt address.

Hello, I’m Rebecca and I’ve been at The Mount since Year 1. Little 6-year-old me could never have imagined how special this school would become to me. Not only through the amazing opportunities it provides us, but also the warm, community feel that has been ever present throughout all my years at the school.

I would firstly like to thank all of the teachers for your support. One of my biggest thank you’s to the school is to the Sports Department because they have provided me with so many opportunities such as representing the school in an array of sports, most notably netball, as well as introduce me to my netball team Rawcliffe Netball club when I was 9 – I still play there today. One of my favourite memories of school has been playing netball. Some key highlights include meeting Eboni Usoro Brown on one of the Shropshire trips, chasing down an ice cream van after playing at a tournament and most recently winning the tournament at Silcoates. I have enjoyed every single minute of playing games, even on early Saturday mornings in the freezing cold.

My advice for younger students if to always participate in sport regardless of if it’s your best sport or if you just enjoy it as it’s a great way to from friendships. I know I’ve not only formed friendships within my year through sport but also with other years too. Sport will be one of things you’ll remember most throughout your time here especially the successes such as this year, Year 7 winning their rounders tournament, Year 10 winning their York League this year, as well as victories on Shropshire netball trips.

Finally, my biggest thank you is to my year, as without you my time here wouldn’t have been the same. I’ve known some of you for many years and I know that I’ve made friends for life. I’ve made so many unforgettable memories with you all, you’ve seen me through my best days and encouraged me when I’m down. Some of the most memorable moments are falling off the swing in Year 7, watching the World Cup in the common room every choc lunch and lunch, and mildly publicly embarrassing ourselves when running through the streets of York dressed as Tangled characters!

I will really miss The Mount School and I honesty can’t believe that I’m leaving this year. However, I know with the well-rounded education that The Mount has provided me I know that I will achieve.

Thank you.
