The Mount School, York, is to embark on an exciting, brand new long-term partnership with the York Chinese School from September 2022 as part of a S.E. Asia Community Hub, in York.
This partnership will enhance the School’s thriving whole-school language provision. We believe, at The Mount School, that an international outlook and the promotion of international networks and connections is a vital part of today’s education, as it strives to promote the global society of the future and to prepare our pupils for effective membership of such a world.
With a proud history of language learning and language and cultural exchanges at The Mount, it only seems fitting that the next step should involve the establishment of a partnership and Chinese Department based here at The Mount School, where pupils are invited to learn the language as part of an extra-curricular curriculum.
Chinese is a priority language for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and an official language of the UN and International Criminal Court. Having access to study Chinese language and culture, supports those in our boarding and day community, as it provides our pupils with the opportunity to broaden cultural and linguistic skills and understanding, whilst also promoting the achievement of excellence for those first language learners.
Our primary aim is that The Mount School Language programme, (comprising German, French, Spanish and Chinese) will provide the foundations and confidence in speaking and writing. Beyond the curriculum, pupils will also have the opportunity to polish their inter-cultural linguistic skills via having access to the Chinese Society that is located next to the School campus, through entering competitions and through formal examinations at GCSE and A Level.
We are delighted to provide the opportunity for so many of our pupils, both UK-based and international, to study this subject and to such a high level.
