Mount Netballers are PGL Shropshire Netball Champions!

Grins spread from ear to ear on The Mount’s four indefatigable netball teams this weekend as they all wore their new medals with pride. Years 8 and 11 both won their tournaments and Years 9 and 10 both came admirable thirds.

The combination of talented sports staff and our Leeds Rhinos afterschool club and summer camps, has paid dividends, with The Mount known as ‘the ones to watch’ in the netballing circuit.

Congratulations to both Years 8 and 11 who had excellent runs in the two-day tournament which saw them undefeated in eight matches, often winning by large margins.

Year 11 had no substitutes so all players played in all matches with selfless Peggy, Year 10, ‘playing up’ to make up the shortfall in the team.

Year 8 won the final 5-0 and Year 11 won their final with a score of 7-1.

Well done to Year 10 who narrowly missed out on reaching the final and to Year 9 who also played their hearts out, both reaching the semi-finals.

Players of the Match included: Pip, Rosie and Charlotte.

Despite rain, thunder and lightning putting pay to some planned activities, when the girls weren’t playing netball, they enjoyed various outdoor pursuits including the giant swing, trapeze, zip wire, rock climbing and abseiling, and fun at a silent disco!

Pip, Year 8, said: “It was really the most exhilarating experience!”

Peggy, Year 10 (who ‘played up’ to for Year 11) said: “It was such fun. Year 11 is a really good team who work together well.”

Ms Fiona Newman, Director of Sport, said:

“The girls worked so hard, dug in, in challenging weather conditions and never gave up. The results speak for themselves. I am so proud of them all. Participation is key at The Mount so everyone gets a game. Our Quaker values of equality and respect meant that teamwork really was key, and everyone was able to contribute to and celebrate our amazing successes.”

Co-Principal, Jo Goudriaan, said:

“Sport is for all at The Mount which makes successes mean so much more. We don’t have B teams; everyone’s contribution counts and is valued. We are so delighted for Years 8-11 all of whom worked so hard in these national tournaments towards deserved success. Bravo!”
