Harriet, Year 7, is taking the racing world by storm, competing above her age group.
Whether road racing or track (usually at the Manchester Velodrome in the National Cycling Centre) Harriet gives her all and is seeing some very promising results.
She finished well at track Manchester last week and at the weekend achieved third, fourth and fifth places in races at The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow.
On road, highlights have included second place in the national championships, in London, and strong performances in Scotland and The Isle of Man.
Both girls and boys compete against each other in this sport.
A member of Clifton Cycling Club since she was seven, Harriet’s skills are really coming into their own. Harriet is prepared to put the time in to hone her craft, training five times a week, towards a bright future in the sport.
She is rightly aiming high for the future:
“I so enjoy racing; there’s a great atmosphere within the racing team. I love ‘track’ and ‘road’ but ‘road’ is my favourite. I’d love to go professional, enter big races and feature in the Tour de France and the Olympics one day.”
Fiona Newman, Director of Sport said:
“We love to hear of and support pupils’ outside of school sporting achievements, as well as guiding them in school. Bravo! We’re all so proud of Harriet’s wonderful achievements in cycling where I’ve no doubt she will continue to go from strength to strength in pursuit of her ambitions.”
