Mount Choirs Proud to Spread Festive Cheer Around Yorkshire

The Mount was proud to perform at The William Wilberforce Residence Care Home in Pocklington once again. What is becoming a lovely tradition of singing carols accompanied by Director of Music, Mr Passmore on piano, was enjoyable for residents, staff and Mount pupils alike.

Residents sang and tapped along to ‘Carol of the Bells’, ‘Silent Night’ and ended on ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’. Songs were both accompanied and a capella. Donuts and squash were handed out for all to share.

There were Mount Old Scholars among the residents, including a Past President of The Mount Old Scholars Association – who loved hearing their old school text sung out just like in their schooldays at Quaker meetings. One resident, her daughter and her grand-daughter all attended The Mount, or still do.

Katie, who sang a solo for one resident aged 104, said:

“I love singing for and with the residents. It was wonderful to meet such friendly people for a festive sing-along.”

Malcolm Young, PR Manager for the care home, said:

“We enjoy this performance every time and thank The Mount for giving up their time and sharing their talents. It brings back such wonderful yuletide memories for the residents with echoes of Christmases past. They think of their youth with nostalgia, and you can just see the joy on their faces as they join in with favourite songs.”

Andrew Passmore, The Mount Director of Music, said:

“We love sharing Mount pupils’ talents all year round, and particularly at Christmastime. I’m very proud of how they are great ambassadors of The Mount and how they live out one of our Quaker principles of ‘making a positive contribution’ through music.”

This visit follows the Mount choirs singing for York residents and visitors at the Living North Christmas Fair at York Racecourse and outside The Ivy in St Helen’s Square in recent weeks, and planning to sing for the Children’s Ward at York Hospital in December.
