A very warm welcome to The Mount School website.
The Mount School provides exceptional independent education for girls aged 11 to 18 in the Senior School and for girls and boys from the age of 2 in the Junior School. Boys may stay at The Mount until the end of Year 6. Girls from the age of 10 can board either as a full, weekly or a flexi boarder. The Mount is a Quaker School but welcomes pupils of all faiths and of none.
Set in fabulous grounds of 16 acres in a conservation area in the heart of the City of York, our pupils are inspired by the beauty and tranquillity of their surroundings. Extensive sports fields and facilities, a 25 metre swimming pool, grass tennis courts, as well as the wonderful outdoor learning and Forest School, set The Mount apart from other schools.
Academic excellence goes without saying and the school consistently performs well at both GCSE and A Level. Three times within the last four years The Mount has been the top performing school for A Level within the York region, last achieving this accolade in summer 2015. Annually, girls gain entry to top universities including, for example, Oxford and Cambridge, Central St Martins, University College London and many top international universities, with our current Head Girl destined in September 2016 for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to study Engineering.
We pride ourselves on the pastoral care we offer and the whole Mount community is built on a mutual understanding of one another, pupils and teachers alike, as we respect and value every individual, live adventurously and practise the wonderful Quaker values of simplicity, truth, equality, peace and social justice in all that we do. Our pupils are considerate, caring, confident, articulate, and well-balanced individuals who are tremendously passionate about life – everything you would want a child of yours to be.
Extra-curricular activities are an important part of the school day, every day and pupils across the school are encouraged to participate in a range of sport, music, drama and other enrichment activities as well as social justice projects such as involvement in Amnesty and the Model United Nations. Charity work is extremely wide-ranging at The Mount and plays an important part in what we do in both Junior School and Senior School.
Our extensive day school is enhanced by our fantastic boarding environment with boarders coming from all over the world, including Asia, South America, Africa, mainland Europe, and of course the UK. Day and boarding pupils all benefit from this eclectic mix of cultures, and life-long friendships are made with people from around the world, within days of starting at the School.
The Mount is a truly rich and diverse community with so much to offer every child and I invite you to come and see this for yourself. Please contact Fiona Ward, our Admissions Manager, to arrange a visit or call 01904 667500. Alternatively, come along to one of our Open Events (the next one is Saturday 4 February 2017, 10.00am to 12.00pm) to meet me, our staff and more importantly our pupils who are true ambassadors of the School in every possible way. I look forward to meeting you very soon, hopefully!
Please note: Bursaries, up to 100%, are available for 2017 entry into Sixth Form for girls who have achieved a minimum of 7 A/A* GCSE grades. If your daughter is predicted to get 7 or more A/A* grades in the summer 2017 GCSE examinations, please get in contact with our Admissions Manager to book a taster day. A small number of bursaries of up to 50% are also still available for entry of new pupils into Years 7 to 10. All bursaries are awarded on a strictly first come first served basis.
