Representatives from the Mount School were over the moon to take part in the world-renowned Gabrieli Consort’s latest Roar project, ‘In Dulci Jubilo’.
Select members of our Chamber Choir, Sian, Kitty and Katie were invited to perform a festive programme of Praetorius, alongside dozens of other youth choirs at York Minster. They were joined by friends and members of our School community for the inspiring performance on the evening of the 3rd of December at York Minster.
Gabrieli Roar ‘In Dulci Jubilo’, is a festive celebration of the spectacular polychoral music of Michael Praetorius and Heinrich Schütz. Led by Gabrieli Artistic Director, Paul McCreesh, more than 3,000 late primary and secondary students joined Gabrieli’s world-class musicians across eight performances in regional cathedrals around the UK.
A belated celebration of the 400th anniversary of Praetorius’ death, this is surely some of the most exciting and flamboyant music of the early Baroque, the perfect platform to encourage young singers to connect with choral and classical music, and heritage culture.
Accompanying Gabrieli’s own consort and Roar young singers, almost every conceivable type of late renaissance instrument was on show – cornets, sackbuts, strings, dulcians, rackets, shawms, trumpets, and all manner of keyboard instruments. This exquisite performance delivered the sumptuous sounds and colours of the renaissance, alongside an inspirational and uplifting evening with young people placed centre stage.
Our girls sang amongst pupils from across Yorkshire, supported by professional musicians from Voces8, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Tenebrae, the Sixteen, and even King’s Singers, amongst others.
Our girls not only impressed the audience with their vocals, but the conductor also praised them for their preparedness.
