Young Entrepreneurs Launch New Business at Christmas Fayre

Young entrepreneurs, Alexia and Minnie in Year 8 have been working on their joint business venture in preparation for the upcoming MSA Christmas Fayre on Saturday 3rd December.  

What started as a hobby for both girls, soon become a fantastic way to combine an activity they enjoy with a clever way to generate pocket money and raise funds for charities such as St Leonard’s Hospice.  

With a bit of guidance from their parents, Alexia and Minnie created a solid business plan and began work on establishing their homemade gifts brand, Pig and Mins. They designed their own logo, price list and a collection of hand-crafted products to sell.  

“I had already been selling some craft bits in my village during lockdown and I thought why not make some money out of something fun” – Minnie 

Initially seen as a way to stave off boredom during the School holidays, Alexia began making beautiful clay ornaments in her free time. “I was bored, and I wanted to do something creative, so I began making clay ornaments. I soon decided I wanted to make a shop too so I could sell the pieces, but my sisters decided they were too old to be involved and that’s when I asked Minnie to help me.” – Alexia 

“We meet up a few times and make stuff together, we have been working really hard to prepare for the Christmas Fayre and hopefully we will be able to do really well at it.” – Minnie  

“We will be selling our usual creations and some special Christmas items like candles and gingerbread houses; we are really looking forward to it.” – Alexia 

Pig and Mins will be available to shop at the upcoming Christmas Fayre along with a wide variety of other local creatives and delicious food outlets, including York caterer, The Bistro Guy and guest of honour, Father Christmas. 

The MSA Christmas Fayre is the ideal opportunity for you to shop locally for your Christmas gifts this year and support a local charity in the process with 20% of all profits to be donated to St Leonard’s Hospice. In total there will be over 30 external crafters, creatives, foodies, and artists all in attendance allowing you to browse leisurely without the hustle and bustle of the high street city centre.  

Each year the MSA Christmas Fayre relies on festive spirit and the kind generosity of parents, family members and friends who volunteer their time to help. Without their support, the event could not continue to be a success.
