Epic Adventures at Marrick Priory
Year 6 returned from their residential to Marrick Priory this week full of excitement and stories of epic adventure and exploration.
The schedule for the week was full of amazing opportunities and exciting activities that included abseiling, canoeing, archery and assault courses just to name a few!
The historic, 12th century medieval building that was developed as an Outdoor Education and Residential Centre in the 1970s, lies in Swaledale, near to Reeth, in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. Marrick Priory’s beautiful location provides the perfect backdrop to an array of outdoor activities and excursions, right on their doorstep.
Upon arrival the girls did not waste any time as they headed straight into their first activity, heading down to the water to take part in some canoeing. Afterwards, a delicious supper was provided followed by an evening stroll in the countryside to catch a glimpse of the sunset. The picturesque scenery sparked the groups artistic intuition, as the desire to draw arose, resulting in a fantastic picture perfectly encompassing the beauty of the environment around them.
Ensuring there was a suitable activity for everyone, the group tackled low ropes, high ropes, archery and spent a glorious evening abseiling down the central tower. The tower overlooked the sunlight streaming through the arched windows surrounding them, creating a remarkable view, sure to eliminate any nerves of even the most anxious of climbers.
As the final day approached, the girls showed no signs of slowing down as they were geared up and ready to take on a morning of ziplining over the rive Swale – a possible highlight for many! The final activity of the trip was not for the faint-hearted. Ensuring to end the trip on a high, the girls scaled the high wall.
A brilliant weekend, with a fantastic group of Year 6 and the perfect final trip of Junior School! We look forward to hearing of any outdoor adventures the pupils endeavour over the summer holidays!
